What is the difference between a Garden designer and a Landscaper?
Are landscapers and garden designers the same thing? What is a landscape designer?
As a garden designer I get asked this all the time, and the simple answer is:
A garden designer designs gardens and a landscaper builds them.
To be more precise a garden designer is a skilled design specialist. They will look at the whole space available, discuss what you need and want within that space and then produce scale plans and drawings of a complete garden that fits with your needs and budget.
A landscaper will build your garden. They will create any hard landscaping that you require such as patios, paths, raised beds, decking, fencing and they will lay lawns.
Some garden designers work with a specific landscaping company to provide a full design and build service whereas other designers will help you find a local landscaper and will sometimes oversee the build project for you.
If required a garden designer will produce specific planting plans for each planted area, order the required plants and either oversee the planting or plant up the garden themselves.
Some landscapers will offer a basic design service and some landscaping companies also offer garden maintenance services.
